You probably are not a happy camper if your server keeps crashing. If you only have 1 server, a crash can be a show stopper. You may have customers waiting on orders, or employees with no work to do (while you are still paying them)!
The most common reason for a server crash is software . You could have a conflict between programs or a simple machine code error. If your server keeps crashing I would be asking the IT department why this issue has not been resolved yet. If they give you blank stares it is time to hire someone else.
Another common issue is a hardware problem. This can easily be resolved by replacing the faulty hardware. Most server parts are not available at the locally, so you may have to order them overnight to get the problem fixed asap. If it is a common failure component, consider having a spare on hand to minimize downtime in the future.
The immediate goal would be to get the server stable and working. If your server keeps crashing then offload the critical functions to a different server while you fix the problem with your main server. We keep spare servers for our clients to increase up-time in the event of a serious hardware crash.
If you are looking for an outsourced IT company with more practical solutions like this, give us a call. If you are in the middle of a crisis we’ll be glad to help (spare server and all.)
